If you are lucky enough to visit the Eiffel Tower, I suggest taking one of the unique rides on the passenger lifts to propel you from the ground level to the second floor in a horizontal direction. Then you can reach the top observation deck by taking a more conventional elevator. Keep in mind that you will be packed in tightly with many others as the Eiffel Tower is the most visited monument in the world. The views are amazing!
If you really want to get some good pictures of the Eiffel Tower then you must wait until nightfall. A spectacular seen is when the Eiffel Tower aluminates. My suggestion is to snap your best pictures at the first lighting show. Pictures usually turn out better without glare from the light if it is nearest to dusk. Using a tripod will also help eliminate glare.
